Home Photography is vitally important for home builders. It allows someone to look into a space and experience it without being there. Matthew Anderson of Elite Home Images was the photographer for our Starr Homes model, the Avalon. When it comes to the importance of home photography, he states:

"For many companies in building and design, photography is their 'storefront'.  For most potential clients, the images they see on a website or social media will make the first impression about the quality of work they do."

There are several factors that go into making these photos look beautiful- the paint colors, textures, flooring, decor...the list goes on! While the interior designer creates a warm and inviting setting inside the home, capturing the moment with photography requires an immense amount of detail and skill. Here are a few tools we utilize to make every Starr Home look amazing:

1. Staging

The first step in getting the most our of your home photography is creating a space that is inviting both in person and behind the lens. Our interior designers are tasked with cultivating a home with complimenting colors, textures, and décor. Evolve Interiors was the designer for our Avalon Model. This particular home features clean lines and beautiful light wood details. The interior designer sets up the home with enough furniture pieces to make the home feel livable and comfortable, but not too many pieces to make it feel cramped. Plants and greenery help the space look healthy and bright. Pops of color and texture in a throw blanket or hand towel add interest to kitchen and great room. The designer also pulls patterns and colors from different rooms to make the home feel cohesive and consistent.  In the Avalon, the wood floors help to compliment the wood on the kitchen island. The bolder accent wall colors are reflected in furniture and rugs in other rooms. All of these details help to make the photos look inviting and interesting.

2. Lighting

The process of home photography can take anywhere from a few hours to a whole day. It is important to take one room at a time and take into consideration how the light is hitting the room. Direct light streaming into a living room could potentially wash out parts of the photo or create distraction. Allowing the sun to move into a different position creates an opportunity to put the attention on the room itself. It's worth the wait!

3. Equipment

While the modern mobile phones have come a long way in the realm of photography, nothing can capture the moment quite like the high-quality equipment. Matthew Anderson of Elite Home Images uses a camera with a variety of lenses for different shots. He also utilizes extra lighting tools to capture the room and highlight different textures of the space.

4. Editing

This is likely the most important and extensive step. After a photographer captures the image, they take the time to adjust lighting, color correction, composition, and editing out any imperfections in the photos. Editing takes photos to the next level. However, it is possible to over-edit photos. It is important to preserve the natural beauty and reality of the space to accurately represent it in the best way possible.
