The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index is the industry standard by which a home's energy efficiency is measured. It’s the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home's energy performance. A home's HERS score tell you how that home operates. The lower the number, the more energy efficient the home. Tests include verification of density of insulation, vapor and air barriers, blower door tests (to check for house leakage), duct system performance testing, and many others. All Starr Homes are independently energy tested by a certified Home Energy Rater.  As a result of continual process improvements, our homes have been averaging HERS scores in the low 50’s. The U.S. Department of Energy has determined that a typical standard new home is awarded a rating of 100, which means our homes are typically 40%+ more efficient than a code built home.  A one point drop in the HERS score means 1% less use of energy in the home.  An average Starr Homes home may save $2,000+ annually in utility costs. It is also great for resale as a low HERS Index Score can command a higher resale price. Want to get your home tested? Click here to find a Certified RESNET HERS Rater near you.
